Specification Reading Order

Identify exact weight and release

RG and differential can change by weight. Record the complete model name, weight and published release document.

Read cover and surface together

Coverstock family, abrasive finish and compound state jointly affect traction and response.

Add bowler inputs

Speed, rev rate, axis rotation, tilt and PAP are required before a layout discussion becomes specific.

Add lane context

Use oil distance, volume, ratio, lane surface and transition state; “medium oil” is not a reproducible condition.

Method Trade-offs and Limits

Reactive resin can provide greater friction response, while urethane can provide smoother control. Neither is universally superior: lane volume, pattern length, surface, release and target shape decide the useful choice.

A published differential describes core potential, not a guaranteed flare measurement. Drilling removes mass, PAP differs between players, and the cover’s current surface state changes on-lane response.

Verification path

Record a baseline ball, prepare candidate surfaces, test on the same lane pair, capture at least ten valid shots per condition, then repeat during transition. Keep the worksheet with the purchase record so another operator can reproduce the comparison.
